This slow cooker apple & pear sauce is easy peasy with a delicious combination of pears and apples which are so fresh this season. Sweet and wholesome and your whole family will love it!
My son eats at least one apple a day…he loves them. The other day he wanted to make apple juice in my Vitamix with one of his favorite kinds of apples (a Fuji apple). Well he didn’t care for the pulp and when we strained it, he barely got a mouthful.
Not wanting to disappoint him when he rarely shows interest in something culinary, I promised him I’d make homemade apple sauce with his beloved Fujis. My friend Lisa makes a yummy apple sauce with brown sugar and butter. Doesn’t that sound tasty! So with that in mind I made this yummy slow cooker pear & apple sauce. Awesome!
I had 4 apples and 4 pears so that is what I used. I also wanted to do this in the slow cooker because I had a lot to do that day.
The nice thing about this recipe is that it’s easy and a child can help you if you want. In this case it was actually my mother in law who helped me make it. She has Alzheimers and lives with us. She was great at helping me peel the apples and pears.
I knew she would like this dish and I hoped she’d be proud that she helped me. Lately she hasn’t been eating much and I thought she would like the sweetness and the consistency would be easy for her to swallow.
These are things you find out with Alzheimers. Food isn’t always as appealing to them as it is to everyone else. And texture plays a big part too. Oh it’s a sad, sad disease.
Back to our recipe, we chopped our apples and pears and added coconut sugar instead of brown sugar because I personally like the taste. And we can’t forget the butter, that’s what makes this sooo good.
It only takes 3 or 4 hours to cook down in my slow cooker but they are all so different you might have to figure out the timing on your own.
Here are the apples after cooking for 3 hours. I tried to mash it with a potato masher but it wasn’t working well so out came the Vitamix and hello smooth, delicious apple pear sauce.
Slow Cooker Apple & Pear Sauce
I loved eating this warm but my son likes it better cold. Everyone had some, and my mother in law had two helpings! Unfortunately you only get about 6 helpings from this batch and it was all gone in our household.
But the good news is that it’s so easy we can have it any night we want. I hope you enjoy this one and make it with someone you love…young or old.

Pear sounds like such a yummy addition. It’s one of my fave winter fruits.

I just used the pears because I didn’t have enough apples. I could taste the difference but Max couldn’t. You were right about the butter. Paula Dean would be proud!
