As you know I love my Ninja Creami ice cream machine to make healthy keto desserts. It somehow creates the most creamy and delicious healthy frozen treats out of protein shakes! It still boggles my mind.
Because I’m such a peanut butter lover I finally made this peanut butter Ninja Cream protein ice cream recipe. To be honest I can’t tolerate peanut butter too much I truly crave it so I try to limit myself but this recipe has made it hard. It has such a rich and creamy texture and tastes just as good if not better than regular ice cream.
Seriously this protein ice cream has 36 grams of protein and just 5 grams of net carbs in the entire pint of ice cream! You could legitimately eat this for breakfast and it would be a great way to start your day. Remember that when you have a hot summer day!
Recipe ingredients I used and substitutions.
I used 6 simple ingredients to make this delicious recipe – sweetener, protein powder, gelatin, heavy cream, peanut butter and almond milk.
Quest Peanut Butter Protein Powder
I just happened to have this on hand and honestly it’s very tasty. If you can’t find a peanut butter flavored protein powder you can use vanilla protein powder or even chocolate if you like the flavor. If you have PB2 or some kind of peanut butter powder you can add a tablespoon or two of that as well for more flavor.
Natural Peanut Butter
I found this Crazy Richard’s peanut butter at a large grocery store and had never heard of it but it’s very low in carbs. You can use any natural peanut butter you can find. Make sure it only contains peanuts and no added sugar if you can.
Great Lakes Gelatin
You want to use an unflavored gelatin for this recipe. Great Lakes Gelatin is a healthy brand and well know with Paleo dieters. However you can use Knorr or any other unflavored brand of gelatin.
Many of my other delicious ice cream recipes use sugar free pudding mix but they tend to have quite a few carbs and the gelatin is used in place of that.
Swerve Sweetener
I love Swerve brand of sweeteners and I especially like the powdered sugar one but you can use your choice of sugar substitutes and even a granulated sweetener if you want.
Almond Milk and Heavy Cream
The small amount of heavy cream makes this recipe much creamier but you can substitute with additional unsweetened almond milk if you can’t tolerate dairy. You can also substitute with coconut milk or coconut cream but that might add a bit of coconut flavor. I don’t think it will taste bad though.
And while I used unsweetened almond milk you can use your milk of choice or any plant based milk like cashew milk if you wish. Almond milk has the least amount of carbs but if you don’t care you can use something else or even dairy milk.
How to make this peanut butter Ninja Creami protein ice cream.
Step 1: Add ½ cup of the almond milk to the pitcher of a high speed blender. Sprinkle the unflavored gelatin on top and let it sit for 5 minutes to bloom. You could also use an immersion blender or even a food processor if you want.
Step 2: To a microwave safe bowl add ½ cup of almond milk and heat up to just about boiling. This should take a minute or two. Pour over the bloomed gelatin and blend until the gelatin dissolves.
Step 3: Add the rest of the ingredients to the blender and blend for a few seconds so that everything is well combined. Pour the ice cream base in the pint container that came with the Ninja Creami machine.
Place the lid on top and store in the freezer for 24 hours or overnight. Make sure to place it on a level surface in the freezer so it freezes flat on top.
Step 4: When ready to eat the next day, take off the storage lid from the pint container and place in the outer bowl assembly of the Ninja Creami. Attach the outer bowl lid and place in the machine. Hit the LITE button and wait until it stops.
This is what mine looked like after one cycle on LITE but if your’s is powdery, place back in the machine and run it through the LITE cycle again for a respin. If after that it is still powdery add a tablespoon of milk and try one more time.
I have never had to run it through more that 3 times and as you can see I only had to do it once for this recipe and it came out smooth and creamy.
When done, scoop into bowls and eat! This makes 2-3 servings for me. When done, store in the pint container and place back in the freezer. You will have to run it through the machine again when you want to eat the leftovers.

Things you can add to this recipe.
If you love chocolate you can take your favorite keto chocolate bar or some type of dark chocolate bar and chop it up and add. I actually used a vegetable peeler and made shavings from a Moser 85% cacao bar I buy from Aldi. This adds very little extra carbs. Other ideas are:
- Any kind of sugar free candies like peanut butter cups or chocolate kisses. I personally can’t take the sugar alcohols they use in these package sugar free chocolates but it’s an option for you.
- Keto friendly chocolate chips: Lilly’s dark chocolate chips or even the white chocolate flavor would work great. ChocZero also makes keto friendly chips.
- Keto friendly cereals – there are a lot of keto cereal brands out there and Magic Spoon is one that I’ve liked before. Wonderworks cereals have flavors that would work great too.
- Keto friendly cookies – There are a number of keto cookies on the market and Aldi has quite a few that are reasonably priced. Just crumble a few up and mix in for more flavor.
- Keto protein bars – If you have a complimentary flavored protein bar you can chop up half of one and mix in.
- Or try some healthy add ins like cacao nibs, coconut flakes, seeds, fresh fruit, nuts, etc.
NOTE: I would not use the mix in cycle on the machine, especially if you are using cereal. It might grind it up too much so just hand mix it in right before you are ready to eat.
More simple recipes for your Ninja Creami machine.
As you may or may not know the Ninja Creami machine can make ice cream, sorbet, gelato, smoothie bowls and more. I have really only made keto protein ice creams and have 8 other healthy ice cream recipes for you to try.
- cinnamon or maple walnut
- strawberry or chocolate
- peppermint or coffee
- salted caramel or orange creamsicle
Well this keto peanut butter Ninja Creami protein ice cream is a winner for anyone who has a sweet tooth and on a low carb diet! I still can’t believe how creamy it came out! I hope you give it a try and love it as much as I do.

Notes
While I used almond milk you could use other plant based milk like oat milk, cashew milk. Almond milk however is very low in carbs compared to other milk alternatives. If you don't care about carbs you can use whatever type of milk you want.
