My sister recently made a cheese steak skillet pasta dish the other day and I was drooling. However I try to stick to a low carb diet so I decided to make this keto cheesesteak salad with a creamy Parmesan dressing instead.
Yum, yum, yum! I love salads just about any way you can make them but this was really tasty and filling. The ground meat was flavored with steak seasoning and I used peppers, onions and mushrooms.
Then I spooned that over crisp greens and top with the creamy Parmesan dressing. It was the perfect flavor combination and it was also very filling and satisfying to me too. This is an easy keto meal for busy nights!
Recipe ingredients I used for the cheesesteak and substitutions.
I used basic ingredients to create the cheese steak salad recipe and they were lean ground beef, fresh mushrooms, onion, bell peppers and steak seasoning.
Ground Beef
I used 85% lean ground beef for this salad but you could use leaner ground meat or even turkey meat if you prefer that. If you use fattier meat you will want to drain the excess grease from the pan before using on your salad though.
Steak Seasoning
I wanted the ground beef to taste more like steak, hence the steak seasoning. If you don’t have any, another substitution would a liberal amount of salt and black pepper. You could even try some everything bagel seasoning.
Onions, Mushrooms and Peppers
I like this combination of veggies for my cheesesteak recipes. You can use red or yellow onion and any kind of fresh mushrooms you like. I used standard button white mushrooms and yellow onion. For the peppers I like a combination of green pepper and sweet bell peppers. Again you can just use sweet or green ones if you want.
Creamy parmesan salad dressing ingredients.
For the creamy parm dressing I used fresh parmesan cheese, mayonnaise, fresh garlic, fresh lemon and heavy whipping cream.
Parmesan Cheese
I like using a fresh block of parmesan cheese and hand grating it myself. However if you are in a pinch you can use the already grated parmesan.
Fresh Garlic and Fresh Lemon Juice
I also really like fresh garlic in dressing and think you should not substitute that if you can however you can use bottled lemon juice. You are not using much so it’s fine.
Heavy Whipping Cream and Mayonnaise
The heavy whipping cream and mayonnaise add that creaminess factor. You could use half and half if that is all you have. And I prefer regular mayonnaise and not Miracle Whip or the sweet mayo brands. They have a sweet flavor that doesn’t go with this dressing and they have carbs.

How to make the keto cheesesteak salad with creamy parmesan dressing.
It’s pretty easy to turn a typical burger or sandwich into a salad. Just a bed of lettuce for the bun. Add all the fixings you would put on a burger or sandwich to your salad and you have a healthy low carb salad for dinner! So let’s get to making this cheesesteak salad. This whole recipe should only take you about 10 minutes.
Sep 1: Get out a small or medium bowl and add the dressing ingredients. Make sure the garlic is crushed or finely minced and the parmesan is finely grated. Whisk everything together and then place in the refrigerator until ready to eat.
You can also make this in a food processor to make sure everything is well mixed. NOTE: You probably will not use all of this dressing. It should keep for a week or so in the refrigerator.
Step 2: Get out a large skillet and heat to medium high heat. Add the olive oil and when it’s hot add the ground beef and mushrooms and then sprinkle the steak seasoning over top. Break up the meat with a wooden spoon and turn the heat down to medium heat.
Step 3: Once the meat is not so pink add the peppers and onions. Saute everything until the meat is cooked though and the veggies have softened. Take off the heat and let cool before using on the salad.
Step 4: Chop up all your salad components and place in a large bowl. I like to keep it simple for this recipe and just use romaine lettuce and low carb vegetables like cucumbers and radishes. Iceberg lettuce would work as well. You have the sautéed veggies from the meat mixture so you don’t need to add many raw ones.
Step 5: Spoon the cooled meat mixture over top the greens and then spoon the salad dressing over top. And that is all there is to it! Store leftovers in an airtight container. Please scroll down to view the printable recipe card.
Other ways to make or eat this dish.
Other things you can add to this salad is more fresh grated parmesan cheese or you can add shredded cheese like mozzarella or provolone like you would for a cheesesteak sandwich. However I preferred to use the cheese component in the dressing. That is up to you.
You can actually use any dressing you like on this salad. Here are 18 homemade keto salad dressing recipes to try. For instance if you are a fan of Italian dressing like my hubby is, you can toss your salad with it and then maybe add some shredded cheese over the meat mixture.
Or you put some shredded cheese like provolone or mozzarella and let it melt on the meat mixture when you are done browning the meat. All these little variations would be tasty.
This keto salad is really a meal in a bowl and I don’t think you need to serve it with anything else to make it a complete meal. You can also use the meat for sandwiches, over rice or pasta if your family isn’t into salads.
Well I hope you like this keto cheesesteak salad and creamy parmesan dressing as much as me. It was so full of flavor and filling to me that I like to eat it for dinner. I should have doubled the batch so I could have it again tomorrow!

Delicious!! I used Gary’s Quick Steak (similar to steak-ums) instead of ground beef and a nice bed of spinach. The flavor combo with the dressing tastes just like a cheese steak! Will definitely make again!
