Have you ever heard of ham and cabbage soup? It’s something that I learned to make from husband’s family and something that we make every time we have a ham. It’s a simple but very tasty soup that you make from the leftover ham bone. Well I was in a panic as to what to make for dinner the other day and while I didn’t have a ham bone, I have kielbasa. And guess what? It was yummy! It was so easy to make and very warming on a cold day.
What Is Kielbasa
Kielbasa is a type of Polish sausage that is traditionally made from ground pork, garlic and spices. While their are many variation of kielbasa at the market made from turkey, they are not authentic Polish kielbasa.
I think the best way is to cook kielbasa in a skillet so that the skin gets browned and crunchy. However you can bake it, boil it or put it in a soup like this recipe.
Kielbasa goes well with peppers, onions, potatoes, cabbage, green beans …. most vegetables!
Kielbasa Vegetable Soup Recipe
When I say it’s easy, I mean it was really easy. I simply added all the vegetables, water and broth to a pot and simmered until the vegetables were tender … about 20 minutes. Then I added the kielbasa and cooked for 10 minutes more. Easy peasy.
