I always have a package of chicken thighs in the freezer because it’s so easy to whip up a keto skillet dinner like these keto brown sugar garlic chicken thighs.
It’s a simple but very tasty recipe that my family loved. The sweet and spicy glaze is made from just a few ingredients and was delicious with chicken thighs. It only took me a 30 minutes to make and had 1.6g net carbs!
The five ingredients I used
The simple garlicky brown sugar chicken glaze only used 4 ingredients which were Swerve brown sugar sweetener, Better than Bouillon chicken base, garlic and hot sauce.
I feel that the Swerve brown sugar and Better than Bouillon base are very important to the recipe and add SO MUCH flavor. I highly recommend you use them. However you can also use another brown sugar sweetener and chicken bouillon. See the Recipe Tips & Notes below for more info.
I also used of course chicken thighs (boneless skinless) and olive oil to brown them in.
Let’s make some keto brown sugar
garlic chicken thighs!
I’m telling you this is a very easy recipe … but yummy! Start by heating up a large pan with olive oil and brown the chicken thighs on both sides. Once they are done (5-6 minutes) take them and set them aside.
Making the sugar free chicken glaze
Use the same pan to make the sauce. If you have some brown sticky bits from browning the chicken, add the Better than Bouillon mixed with hot water to deglaze the pan.
Next whisk in the rest of the ingredients to make the sauce. Let it simmer for a few minutes so the Swerve brown sweetener dissolves and makes a sugar free chicken glaze.
Now add back the chicken thighs. Flip them around in the glaze and then cover and cook for a about 20 minutes until the chicken is cooked through. That’s it!
Recipe Tips & Notes
- I used boneless, skinless chicken thighs but you can use any type of chicken you wish. Just makes sure to brown the pieces and that they are cooked through. In other words, times may vary depending on what type of chicken you are using.
- The two very important ingredients in this recipes are the Better than Bouillon chicken base and Swerve Brown sugar sweetener. They add SO MUCH FLAVOR you really should use them. That being said you could also use chicken bouillon and regular sweetener but if you have a brown sugar sweetener that would be best. Lakanto golden is another good one.
- If you are not low carb you can of course use regular brown sugar.
- Serve this over cauliflower rice or veggie noodles. Or just eat it as is with one of the suggested side dishes below.
