Oh how I like Nutella…I could eat the whole jar. But as delicious as it is, it’s full of sugar and is more of a dessert than a healthy spread like they advertise. Today I decided to make my own version of it using a homemade sunflower seed butter from another post. It’s so delicious and healthy you will want to spread it on everything. One tablespoon of this chocolate sunflower seed butter only has 1.1g net carbs!
How To Make Plain Sunflower Seed Butter
I have showed you how to make homemade sunflower seed butter in another post. You just use roasted sunflower seed kernels, coconut oil and stevia for sweetener. You just grind the seeds until they turn into a butter and add the other ingredients.
In this recipe we are basically doing the same thing but adding a few more ingredients to add that chocolate flavor.
Making Keto Chocolate Sunflower Seed Butter
To make this chocolate sunflower seed butter you start by adding the seeds (kernels not the black and white seeds) to a food processor. Pulse and grind until the seeds start to break down and become the consistency of a nut butter.
Now you can add the rest of the ingredients and mix until well combined. Remember to scrape down the sides of the food processor to get all of it in there.
Spoon the chocolate sunflower seed butter into a container and store in the refrigerator.
I like to spread this on low carb crackers or breads that I get at Netrition.com. I also use it with low carb fruit or just eat it by the spoonful. The nutritional information for 1 tablespoon is:
66 cals / 5.4g fat / 2.6g carbs / 1.5g fiber / 1.9g protein = 1.1g net carbs
Note: I adapted the recipe from Momables.com.
