My Quest For A Homemade Quest Bar.

October 1, 2013 by Denise Leave a Comment

I love Quest bars and buy them frequently but the best price I can seem to get is about $2 per bar. So while I still by them from these sites, I was in search for a homemade recipe to try. This site had the best recipe so far and this was my second attempt to make them. One batch gave me 4 balls which equal one Quest bar. I like the balls and keep them in the fridge. I usually only need 1 because they are sweet and the protein powder fills me up quickly.
balls

Questlike Balls (yields 4)

â…“ cup of Syntrax medical protein powder

5 Werthers sugar free candies

2 T almond flour

½ t vanilla

½ t DaVinci sugar free caramel syrup

½ t stevia

1) Melt candies in a small pot on the stove til melted. Add a few drops of water to make sure it’s syrupy.

2) When melted add syrup, vanilla and stevia and mix well.

3) Add almond flour and protein powder and mix. Take out of pot and knead mixture in your hands. If it’s too crumbly add a little water and if too sticky add a little protein powder.  This step is the hardest for me. The first time I added too much water at the beginning and it was too sticky. The photo above is too dry. So I suggest reading the above link and get some more tips if you are interested.

Note: I will update this the next time I make them til I get it right. I keep them in a baggie in the fridge because I’m not sure if they should be kept out. That’s your call. 😉

Nutrition estimated: 1 ball = 45 cals   0.6g fat   1.4g carbs   6.4 protein

Yes, I know what it looks like. However this was my first attempt that was sticky. But it looked alright.

A note on products. I buy alot of things at Aldi’s. Their products are good quality and cheaper than name brands. Since this recipe called for only 2 T of almond flour, I made my own. I put a ¼ of blanched almonds in a mini food processor and in less than a minute I had my almond flour!
