Fun Valentines Day Candy Puzzle

This is a fun Valentines Day candy puzzle that your kids can make. Using candy as puzzle pieces makes for an easy and fun craft for school.Every year it seems that I am in charge of the Valentine’s Day craft for my son’s school party. I’m not particularly crafty so I end up scouring the internet for hours, shopping for way too many items and then spending hours upon hours getting ready for the big day. The big day ends up being about 10 minutes long for a craft the kids usually like but could really care less about. In other words I spend way too much time, money and worry on these things. So this year I toned it down a bit. I found this cool idea on Pinterest for a Valentines Day candy puzzle. I got Max’s approval  and off I went to Amazon to buy the materials and I made craft. This was pretty easy and I think the kids will like it.

All you need for this craft is a bunch of Starburst individual candies, labels and markers. You could also package these in a snack size baggie with a cute label to make it a complete package. I intend to do this but haven’t gotten that far yet. 😉

I bought the Starburst and labels on Amazon (affiliate links). These were the best prices I could find and didn’t want to go store to store in hopes to find the right size label. I used 16 candies to make my puzzle for a 4×4 square. Each candy is ¾″ square so I needed labels 3″x3″. I ended up buying 3″x4″ labels and cut the extra inch off.

Valentines Day Candy Puzzle Craft

Above you can see that I made my design on the front of the label. Make sure the kids color as much of the label and they can. This will make solving the puzzle much easier. Below you can see the back of the label where I made cut lines for the kids. We don’t get much time so I thought this would speed things up.

Next you cut your label up into 16 equal pieces.

Gather 16 pieces of Starbursts (I bought the FaveREDS pack that only had strawberry, fruit punch, watermelon, and cherry flavors and thus pink and red wrappers). Arrange them in a 4×4 square.

Peel the stickers and  place on the candies. Below is my first one so the label is a bit different but you get the idea.

And that is all there is to this Valentines Day candy puzzle. Another way you can speed things up and make it easier for the kids is to have them color the label, peel off the back and place their candies on the whole label. Then have them cut them up from there. It takes a bit of finessing but it’s quicker than peeling 16 little pieces of  label. Fun Valentine's Day Candy Puzzle

Ingredients

• markers
• 3 "x3" labels
• Starburst

Instructions

1. If using the 3"x4" labels, cut of one inch to make a 3"x3" label.
2. Color your design on the front with Markers. I used Sharpies for the best coverage. Make sure you color as much of the label as you can so the puzzle is easy to solve when you are done.
3. On the back of the label make lines for the kids to cut on. Make a line at every ¾" interval. (Each candy is ¾" square.)
4. Either cut your label into 16 equal pieces via the lines on the back. OR Arrange 16 pieces of candies on the sticky side of the label to fill it up. Carefully cut the candies apart to get your 16 pieces of the puzzle.
5. Mix up the pieces and have the kids solve the puzzle.
6. Package in snack size baggies for a cute favor.
