I personally love veggies and dip, especially in summer. A while ago I made a ranch flavored cottage cheese veggie dip that I loved because it was low carb and high protein.
Recently my husband made these fantastic homemade pickle chips that I used to make this cottage cheese pickle dip to eat with veggies. It was so tasty because the creamy whipped cottage cheese went perfectly with the briny spicy pickles. And of course I added some fresh garlic and a bit of jalepeno to complete the flavor profile of this easy and healthy snack.
And the texture of whipped cottage cheese is a great base for a dip as it takes the place of sour cream and cream cheese plus it’s full of protein. And this yummy dip has only 4 ingredients and 1.2 grams of protein per tablespoon!
Recipe ingredients and substitutions.
I only used 4 simple ingredients for this pickle dip and they were Good Culture cottage cheese for the creamy base and fresh garlic, jalapeno and homemade pickles were the seasoning.
- Pickles Chips – I used some of my husbands delicious homemade pickle chips and they were more of a hot and spicy pickle but this would also work with a dill pickle as well. I would suggest to use your favorite type of pickle for this recipe.
- Fresh Garlic – I always use fresh garlic in my dip recipes because I love the flavor but you could substitute with garlic powder. Just remember ¼ teaspoon of garlic powder is equal to 1 fresh clove of garlic.
- Cottage Cheese – I used my favorite cottage cheese which is the Good Culture brand because it’s low carb and live active cultures. I also just love the taste of it. But you can use any brand you want. If you are counting carbs, check for the brand that has the lowest, otherwise go for taste.
- Fresh Jalapeno – I wanted to a bit of bit and green flavor that you get from a fresh jalapeno. You can substitute with pickled jalapenos, a small sweet bell pepper or just add a sprinkle of hot pepper flakes. If you don’t like heat you can also eliminate it.
- Optional – You can use fresh herbs for garnishing this dip recipe. Try fresh chives, chopped green onions or if you are using dill pickles try some fresh dill or even dried dill. Pickles usually have a good amount of salt but you can always add salt and black pepper too if you want.
I also used this mini food processor which is perfect for small batch recipes like this. I’ve had it for more than 15 years and use almost daily. It’s especially good for whipped cottage cheese recipes.
How to make cottage cheese pickle dip.
This pickle dip is very easy to make and all you need is a food processor or blender.
Step 1: Get out the food processor and add the clove of garlic. Process to finely mince it. Then add in the cottage cheese and blend until smooth and creamy. Try to get all the lumps out of the cottage cheese base.
Step 2: Next add the pickles and the chopped jalapeno pepper. Gently pulse to chop up the pickles and pepper but you don’t want to blend it too much. You want the little bits of both in the dip.
You can also chop by hand and just fold into the whipped cottage cheese mixture.
Step 3: Transfer the mixture into a bowl and chill in the refrigerator until ready to eat. Note that if the consistency is too thick for you, you can add a tablespoon or two of the pickle juice to thin it out.

What to use this pickle dip with.
I personally just like to eat this with raw veggies. Specifically I like fresh cut sweet bell peppers, cucumbers, carrots and celery. However you can also use this as a spread on toast. Sort of like avocado toast but with cottage cheese.
It would go great with this with your crackers of choice. I have these low carb Norwegian crisp bread recipe which would be perfect if you are on a keto diet.
And lastly while this wouldn’t be low carb, it would go great on a burger. Or try it with fried fish or other fried foods as it’s similar to a tartar sauce. Potato chips or pretzels would also go well.
