I don’t know about you but I often have a protein smoothie in the morning for my breakfast. This low carb dark chocolate protein smoothie is my new go to in the morning. It’s chocolatey, rich and creamy and that little bit of matcha green tea gives me a little kick of caffeine to start my day.
Chocolate Protein Smoothie Ingredients
While none of the ingredients I used are unusual, I did want to tell you what I used specifically (see below pic). If you are interested you can find most of the products on my Amazon page.
First I used plain unsweetened almond milk and Isopure Zero Carb protein powder because they are lower in carbs.I found this bag of frozen avocado chunks at Costco and I added that for healthy fats and to make the smoothie thick and creamy. The protein powder had some sweetness but I also added a bit of Swerve sweetener. Lastly I used this wonderful Guittard chocolate cocoa powder. It is SO flavorful and perfect for this dark chocolate drink.
I also used Steeped Tea matcha powder. I’ve been drinking Steeped teas for so long, I now sell it! So if you interested in high quality tea like this matcha green tea, you can find those here.
For all of these ingredients you can use whatever brands you wish. However if you are on a low carb diet, make sure to check the nutritional labels first.
Low Carb Dark Chocolate Protein Smoothie Recipe
This is one of those times I’m happy I have a Vitamix blender. It blends the frozen avocado and other ingredients into a thick and creamy shake. As you can imagine all you have to do to make this smoothie is add everything to a blender and blend on high.
If you are a chocolate lover like me you will love this dark chocolate shake. It has protein, healthy fat, a bit of caffeine all while being sugar free and low carb. You can’t beat that! The nutritional information for 1 serving is:
220 cals / 9g fat / 22g carbs / 19.5g fiber / 28.4g protein = 2.5g net carbs

Ingredients
- 1 cup unsweetened almond milk
- 1 tablespoon dark cocoa powder**
- 1 scoop zero carb protein powder**
- ½ teaspoon matcha green tea
- 1 tablespoon Swerve sweetener**
- ¼ cup avocado, frozen
Instructions

Add all ingredients to a high speed blender and blend until the avocado makes it smooth and creamy. Pour and drink!

** Ingredients I used. I like Isopure Zero Carb Protein powder and CarbSmart protein powders because they have no carbs. I used Guittards cocoa rouge cocoa powder but you can use whatever you wish. I also used Swerved sweetener but you can use whatever sweetener you like.
