I love Bit O Honey candy as it reminds me of my childhood but also I love the sweet and nutty flavor. Last summer I was making a different type of low carb recipe and was surprised to find that it had a Bit O Honey flavor and thought it would be great as an ice cream especially if made in the Ninja Creami!
So today I finally made this keto Bit O Honey ice cream in the Ninja Creami ice cream maker. It did not disappoint! It was sweet and creamy and tasted just like my childhood favorite candy. But best of all for me it was low carb(8.2g) and high protein (17.6g) which fits in good with my low carb diet and protein goals.
Why I love this recipe!
I have 23 healthy Ninja Creami ice cream and sorbet recipes to date on this blog because this ice cream machine blows my mind. I’ve been trying to make low carb ice cream for years and when I bought one of these machines a couple years ago, my prayers were answered. It’s so easy to make a sugar free, protein base and the machine will grind it into a creamy sweet treat. I usually have 4 pint containers in the freezer for a keto dessert whenever I want to eat it. Anyway I love this recipe because:
- It has a sweet and nutty flavor that tastes just like a Bit O Honey candy.
- It’s a high protein dessert or snack with 17.6g of protein.
- It’s also both low carb and sugar free coming in at 8.2g net carbs.
- You only need 5 simple ingredients to make this recipe.

Recipe ingredients and substitutions.
The 5 ingredients for this protein ice cream are cashews, unsweetened almond milk, sweetener, unsweetened canned coconut milk and vanilla protein powder.
- cashews – Originally I made this with cashew butter which is easier but I can’t always find it. So today I just made my own. All you need are cashews and a food processor or blender. Put the cashews in and blend for a few minutes until it breaks down to form a butter like peanut butter. Alternatively you can use no sugar added store bought cashew butter or even almond butter.
- unsweetened almond milk and coconut milk – I’m finding unsweetened coconut milk from a can really good for low carb ice creams and if you don’t have any you can use heavy cream though it’s a bit higher in fat. And almond milk is more to add liquid without carbs. You can substitute with other nondairy milk substitute if you want.
- Swerve sweetener – I love this brand and use it all the time. I use both the erythritol and allulose blend sweeteners and they work great. However you can use your sweetener of choice.
- Isopure ZeroCarb Vanilla Protein Powder – This is my favorite protein powder because it has zero carbs and I like the taste. You can use whatever vanilla protein powder you want. If it has carbs you will have to make your own calculations for the nutrition info for this recipe though.
NOTE – Some of my recipes use protein shakes for the liquid part of recipes. While you could substitute a vanilla protein shake for the almond milk, coconut milk and protein powder and it would make a lower fat and calorie ice cream, the result would not taste as much of a that Bit O Honey flavor. The coconut milk and cashews are what create it.

How to make keto bit o honey ice cream in the Ninja Creami.
NOTE: If you don’t have cashew butter and need to make your own add the cashews to a food processor and process until it breaks down to a butter. This might take up to 5 minutes and you may have to stop every once in a while to scrap down the sides. Don’t worry about it not being completely smooth. See the picture above for what it should look like.
If using cashew butter just continue on to step 1 to make the base. You will want about 5 tablespoons.
Step 1: Add to a blender pitcher the almond milk and coconut milk. It’s less messy when you add the liquids in first. Then the cashew butter, sweetener and protein powder. Blend on high until well combined and then pour the base in the pint storage container that came with the Ninja Creami ice cream maker.
Attach the lid to the Creami container and place on a flat surface in the freezer overnight.

Step 2: The next day take off the storage lid off the frozen pint and place in the outer bowl assembly bowl lock the lid. Place in the Ninja Creami and hit the LITE ice cream button. When it’s done running through the cycle it should like the picture below.

If it does not look that above or looks powdery run it through another cycle until nice and creamy. If it’s still not creamy enough you can add a tablespoon of almond milk and run it through again and it should be. Get out your bowls and serve immediately.
I’ve made this a few times and it has always just taken 1 run through the machine due to the high fat content of the coconut milk.

Note if you want to use the Mix In cycle, you can add a few chopped up cashews or almonds (about 1 tablespoon) after it’s done. You just mix them in by hand.
If you only eat half, smooth out the surface of the container into an even layer and place the storage lid back on. Place in the freezer until it’s frozen solid and then when you are ready to eat, just run it through the machine again.

Bit O Honey Ice Cream Recipe (keto, protein, Ninja Creami)
This delicious Bit O Honey ice cream recipe is made in the Ninja Creami ice cream maker. It's not only keto and sugar free but it's also high in protein and just needs 5 ingredients.
Ingredients
- ¼ cup unsweetened almond milk
- 1 cup unsweetened coconut milk from a can
- ¼ cup Swerve sweetener
- ⅓ cups cashews (5 tablespoons of cashew butter)**
- 1 scoop Isopure Zerocarb Vanilla Protein powder**
Instructions
- First you have to make cashew butter by adding the cashews to a food processor. Process for a few minutes until the nuts breakdown to make a butter. You may have to scrape down the bowl a few times. Don't work if it's not super creamy. It can have a small bits of nuts in it. If using cashew butter from a jar continue to the next step.
- Add to a high speed blender the almond milk then the coconut milk and then the rest of the ingredients. Blend until well combined. Pour the base into the pint container that came with the Ninja Creami machine. Place the storage lid on top of the Creami container and place on a flat surface in the freezer.
- The next day take out the container and take off the lid. Place it in the outer assembly bowl. Attach lid and place in the machine and hit the LITE button. When it's done, look at it and if it's smooth and creamy it's done. If not run it through the LITE cycle again. If after the second time it's powdery still, add a tablespoon of almond milk and run through again. However everytime I've made this it only too 1 cycle.
- This makes 2-3 servings for me as it's rich and creamy. If you have leftovers, make sure to smooth down the surface and refreeze. You will have to run it through the machine again next time you want to eat it. It has to be frozen solid and have a fairly flat surface.
Notes
**NOTES
- You can use store bought cashew butter if you can find it. Make sure it has nothing but cashews as the ingredients if you are watching carbs.
- You can also substitute with almond butter but it will have a slightly different flavor. I have made it and liked it as well but the cashews seem to be closer to the taste of Bit O Honey candy.
- You can use any kind of protein powder you want but it should be vanilla flavored. Isopure has no carbs so that is why I use it and I like the taste as well.
