Enjoy a hot cup of minty butter matcha as a pick you up in the morning. Healthy fats and matcha green tea make for a healthy breakfast choice.
This is my newest go-to drink in the mornings. Especially if I go to the gym and didn’t get a chance to eat breakfast. It has the health benefits of matcha tea (which you can read about here if you are interested), coconut oil, peppermint and grass fed butter. It’s a little like a bulletproof coffee but with Matcha and mint. There is something so tasty about the addition of the butter that makes me want to put it in everything.
Matcha has all kinds of healthy properties like antioxidants and phytochemicals. It gives you a boost of energy without the jitteriness of coffee. It’s the whole green tea leaf in powdered form so that gives this drink a lovely shade of green. The peppermint essential oil is a good energizer too and it’s good for your digestion but in this recipe I’m purely using it for the taste. I only use 1 drop so I feel it’s safe to ingest. And as I’ve said earlier, it’s the butter that makes this. The butter and coconut oil give you the energy to work out at the gym when you don’t have time (or desire in my case) to eat breakfast. Not that I work out all that hard, but I feel this gives me a little energy to work with! 😉
These are the components of my drink. Not much to it. I buy my Matcha from my friend Debbie who sells the best tea around, Steeped Tea. You can find some on her site if you are interested. (Note: this is not an affiliate link….I just love Steeped Tea!)
A note on the peppermint essential oils…make sure it’s PURE essential oil and food grade. When in doubt, don’t ingest it at all and just use peppermint extract or peppermint leaves. As I said earlier, I only use 1 drop.
And of course there is the coconut oil and Kerrygold grass fed butter. This butter is so delicious to me and I use it sparingly. Actually I horde it but that’s another story. You don’t have to use both the coconut oil and butter but I like the coconut flavor and the butter flavor so I just use 1 teaspoon each.

I tried this recipe this morning and the peppermint essential oil pictured in the post I own. So I used it….is this particular essential oil food grade and safe for human consumption?
Denise
Hi Daylin,
Here is my thoughts. I know that Aura Casia is a good brand. It’s part of Frontier Coop in which I have been buying from for many, many years. I think they have very high standards for their products. I personally feel fine ingesting their product because it is just 1 drop. However if you are at all in doubt just use peppermint extract that you find in the baking aisle or give the company a call 1-844-550-7200. I think Doterra oils say you can ingest their Peppermint oil. Hope that helps!
Chloe
This is amazing! I only just noticed that the peppermint oil that you have (I have the same and have used it twice) says “not for internal use” on the side. Now I’m not sure that it’s safe for eating, and some search results for ingesting essential oils indicate the same. Are there edible peppermint extracts we can use, or straight up mint leaves?
Denise
The warning on the label is more of a legal issue. I personally have not had a problem ingesting 1 drop of pure essential oil (must be pure). With that said I also don’t drink this everyday or more than one cup a day. However I totally understand your hesitance and suggest that you use peppermint extract that you get in a grocery store, or fresh mint, or even dried mint (from a tea bag) just to be safe. It’s always better to be safe than sorry. Hope that helps! (PS I think Aura Casia is an excellent brand. I buy lots of things from Frontier Coop who owns Aura Casia. They are a great company and have high quality natural products.)

What an easy but interesting-sounding drink. I am not sure if I have ever tried matcha actually- I know I always mean to but get distracted by other things! Might have to finally get round to it with this!

My good friend Debbie sells tea and she got me into it. I really like it a lot.

Can you believe I haven’t used Matcha in a recipe yet. I do use Kerrygold butter, though. I’m so curious about this recipe, I’ll have to get some Matcha.
Denise
Well I hope you do and I hope you like it!
