I don’t know who invented the mug cake but I love them for it. It’s great to have 1 serving of a sweet low carb snack in just minutes. Because so many people are keto these days, I thought that this keto mug cake mix would be a tasty yet easy gift to give this season.
It only takes a few ingredients to make and if you pair it with a pretty mug or ramekin and a couple bottles of Torani Sugar Free Syrup you are all set. They can use the mug over and over again and the Torani syrups add a variety of flavors to the mug cake or they can use it in coffee. This keto mug cake mix is practical, easy and inexpensive.
First Let’s Talk About The Keto Mug Cake
I don’t know if you can tell from the photo below but this mug cake is rich and gooey and very chocolatey. It only needs a few ingredients and has 1.9g net carbs per serving! The ingredients are cocoa powder, almond flour, baking powder, Swerve confectioners sweetener, Torani sugar free syrups, butter and an egg yolk.
You mix them altogether and microwave for 30-60 seconds and it’s done!
Note If Giving This As A Gift
If you are making this as a gift you will want to make the mix (cocoa powder, sweetener, almond flour and baking powder) and place it in a nice jar. You will have to also make a tag that has the instructions,
The tag should tell them to add an egg yolk, tablespoon of butter and 2 tablespoons of Torani Sugar Free Syrup. It should also tell them how long to cook it in the microwave and that it only has 1.9g net carbs per serving. I have a free sheet of gift tags below but you can make your own if you wish.
Why You Want To Add Torani Sugar Free Syrups
You know I love Torani syrups because they have so many flavors to choose from. For this gift they are perfect to not only give your mug cake a different flavor but your friend can also use it in their coffee or tea.
I included Torani Sugar Free Salted Caramel and S’mores Syrups in my gift box because they are my favorites lately. However they have over 30 sugar free syrups! You can find Torani Flavors available for purchase at a World Market near you and here is their store locator to make it easy to find one.
Inexpensive Finds For This Gift Box
So this gift is very practical and inexpensive because there are only a few ingredients in the mug cake mix and then you just have to buy a bottle or two to Torani syrups and a mug.
Below you can see the mugs and boxes that I used. I bought the boxes and the mug with the spoon at Dollar General and the poinsettia mug and jar from the Dollar Tree.
Things To Put In Your Gift Box
There are a lot of different inexpensive things you can put in these gift boxes. Some ideas can be:
- a cute mug or ramekin
- Torani sugar free syrups
- a jar or bag of the mug cake mix
- coffee or tea to be used in the mug along with the syrups
- mix ins for the mug cake like sugar free chips, nuts or coconut flakes
- a special holiday spoon to stir the coffee or eat the mug cake
- Remember: You can find cute mugs, boxes, bows and papers in your nearest dollar stores.
Free Printable Gift Tags
If you gift this keto mug cake mix you also have to add the directions to make them. I’ve made you a page of little tags with the instructions that you can download. This page looks like the tag to the right but this page is just plain tags that you can glue to a nice card or decorative paper if you want.
But in case you want to make your own tag just copy the directions in the graphic to the right.
Keto Mug Cake Mix Tips
- I like to use Swerve confectioners sugar because it works better in the baking of this mug cake.
- I also like Divine cocoa powder or Guittards cocoa powder because it has less carbs than store bought. Note you can find these in my Amazon storefront.
- This recipe works better if you put it in the food processor so it mixes well and gets out all of the clumps.
- You need to add the directions to this mix so your friends will know how to use it. It needs 1 egg yolk, 1 tablespoon of butter and 2 tablespoons of Torani sugar free syrups. They only need to microwave the mug cake for 30-60 seconds. Also let them know that it only has 1.9g net carbs.
- The recipe card below is only for 1 mug cake. If you are making this for a gift, I would quadruple the recipe to fit into your jar.
- Remember they use the Torani sugar free syrups with the mug cake and put it in their coffee or tea. I have TONS of Torani low carb recipes on this site if they are looking for more ways to use them.
Well I hope you like this gooey chocolate keto mug cake mix as much as I did. You don’t need to give this as a gift. You can just make it for yourself to have on hand when that sweet tooth calls. That’s what I do.
The nutritional information for 1 mug cake is:
338 cals / 28.9g fat / 10.6g carbs / 8.7g fiber / 9.8g protein = 1.9g net carbs
Homemade Keto Mug Cake Mix
If you are looking for an easy and inexpensive gift to give this holiday season, check out this homemade keto mug cake mix. Pair it with a nice mug and a couple bottles of Torani syrups and you have a great low carb gift in minutes!
Ingredients
- ¼ cup almond flour
- ½ teaspoon baking powder
- 1 tablespoon cocoa powder
- 1 tablespoon Swerve confectioners sweetener
- 2 tablespoons Torani sugar free syrup
- 1 egg yolk
- 1 tablespoon butter
Instructions
- To make the mix: In a large bowl or food processor, add the almond flour, baking powder, Swerve sweetener and cocoa powder. Using the food processor will ensure that it blends well and doesn't have any lumps.
- NOTE: You will probably want to triple or quadruple this recipe to fit your jar. The amounts in this recipe will only make 1 mug cake.
- To make 1 mug cake from a large jar of mix: Add 1 tablespoon of butter to your mug and microwave for 30 seconds to melt. Then swirl the buter around the mug to essentially grease the sides so the mug cake won't stick.
- Add 6 tablespoons of the mug cake mix, 1 egg yolk and 2 tablespoons of your favorite Torani sugar free syrup. Mix well to combine.
- Microwave for 30-60 seconds until the cake is done. Don't over cook or it will get dry.
Notes
This recipe will make 1 mug cake. If you just want to make the mug cake for yourself, follow the directions and instead of adding 6 tablespoons of the mix, add all of the ingredients listed above.
If you are giving this as a gift, you will want to double or quadruple the mix to fit in your jar.
Cooking times will vary depending on the size of the mug you are using.
338 cals / 28.9g fat / 10.6g carbs / 8.7g fiber / 9.8g protein = 1.9g net carbs

I have several diabetics in our circle who struggle with blood sugar control during the holidays. This is a perfect gift for them, and I love your ideas of adding sugar free syrups to the gift box. I pinned this to make some for gifts. Thank you!!

Superb gifting option and super dessert too.

This is a lovely gift idea! I do have a question, though. Why an egg yolk and not the whole egg? I hate separating eggs because I invariably have to toss what I don’t use for the recipe. Have you tried it with a whole egg?
Thanks!
Denise
Hi Erica, I like just the yolk because the white tends to make it spongy. However I just tried it and it’s not that bad! I do like it better with just the yolk because it’s richer tasting but I’m glad I tried it. So thank you. Here is a pic of it. I just made it a few minutes ago.
