This is my newest go-to drink in the mornings. Especially if I go to the gym and didn’t get a chance to eat breakfast. It has the health benefits of matcha tea (which you can read about here if you are interested), coconut oil, peppermint and grass fed butter. It’s a little like a bulletproof coffee but with Matcha and mint. There is something so tasty about the addition of the butter that makes me want to put it in everything.
Matcha has all kinds of healthy properties like antioxidants and phytochemicals. It gives you a boost of energy without the jitteriness of coffee. It’s the whole green tea leaf in powdered form so that gives this drink a lovely shade of green. The peppermint essential oil is a good energizer too and it’s good for your digestion but in this recipe I’m purely using it for the taste. I only use 1 drop so I feel it’s safe to ingest. And as I’ve said earlier, it’s the butter that makes this. The butter and coconut oil give you the energy to work out at the gym when you don’t have time (or desire in my case) to eat breakfast. Not that I work out all that hard, but I feel this gives me a little energy to work with! 😉
These are the components of my drink. Not much to it. I buy my Matcha from my friend Debbie who sells the best tea around, Steeped Tea. You can find some on her site if you are interested. (Note: this is not an affiliate link….I just love Steeped Tea!)
A note on the peppermint essential oils…make sure it’s PURE essential oil and food grade. When in doubt, don’t ingest it at all and just use peppermint extract or peppermint leaves. As I said earlier, I only use 1 drop.
And of course there is the coconut oil and Kerrygold grass fed butter. This butter is so delicious to me and I use it sparingly. Actually I horde it but that’s another story. You don’t have to use both the coconut oil and butter but I like the coconut flavor and the butter flavor so I just use 1 teaspoon each.
