Day Tripping With Rick By Bike – Ft. Myers, FL – Sanibel Island
With many of us are mired in the throes of winter, ice, snow and salt are likely to be the only things touching our feet for the next few months. It’s a good time to talk about a warm place where your bare toes can touch the sand. Such a place is Sanibel Island which is on the Gulf of Mexico just off of Fort Myers. Sanibel is far enough south to escape the winter cold fronts that dip into the state during the winter, so you stand an excellent chance of having sunny, warm days.
Rick has his own blog now. Yay Rick! Please click here for the rest of the article and check out the rest of Rick’s site: Day Tripping with Rick.

We have a condo several miles from the causeway onto Sanibel Island that we visit frequently. The $6 doesn’t keep us off either. We’ve never rented bikes there, but have talked about it. There are many other wonderful restaurants, beaches, and shops to visit on the island(s). Tarpon Beach is my favorite, with plenty of shells for doing the Sanibel Stoop. We like the Lighthouse Cafe for breakfast and the Keylime Bistro, on Captiva, for lunch. By supper we’re usually headed back to our place for a shower and rest.
We’ll have to visit the Great White Grill next time. I was born and raised in southwestern Pennsylvania, and now live only a short distance into a neighboring state. I worked very hard at removing yinz from my vocabulary, but I can pick it up again in no time! Thanks for the post.

I live about 2.5 hours north of Sanibel Island. I went there once when I was a little kid, so I don’t really remember much about it. I’ve been bugging my husband to take a day trip down there so we can explore it more, and now that I know there’s a Steeler bar there, I absolutely HAVE TO go. Go Steelers (and Pens and Pirates)!

Yinzers are everywhere!
We are dealing with shoveling snow so you will get no sympathy.
Sanibel seems to be one of those paces lost in time. It’s like whenever you go there,it’ll b warm and sunny.
The Great White looked like a legit place. Try to get down there next year and take in a game.

We are about 2 hours from Sanibel and would love to visit.
Thanks for the information and photos.
