I’ve been a big fan of parmesan chips lately. They are so easy to make and are great for a quick keto snack. Today I made some keto ham and cheese chips and to go with it a simple sweet mustard dip. It was delish!
This batch made 20 chips and each one only had 0.2g net carbs! The dip has essentially no net carbs in the whole batch!
What’s in these keto ham and cheese chips?
The chips themselves only require finely chopped ham and finely grated parmesan cheese. I use these two products that I bought at Aldi.
I suggest you buy parmesan cheese in a block and grate it with a microplane to get a nice and airy grate as you can see below. Buying it already grated will have some extra ingredients which might affect how it melts.
Let’s make these ham and cheese crisps!
Below you can see how finely I’ve grated the parmesan cheese and chopped the ham.
Just mix the two together and add about a tablespoon of the mixture onto a cookie sheet that has been covered in parchment paper or a silicone mat.
Bake them for about 12 minutes in a 350°F oven. Check them to see that they are browning and not burning. You can eat them right away as soon as you can handle them. Note they will get softer and chewier as they sit but they still taste yummy.
Making the low carb sweet mustard dip
This is a simple sauce or dip but it goes great with the ham and cheese chips. You simply mix mayonnaise, mustard and a little Swerve sweetener. That all!
You can use whatever kind of mustard you prefer from regular yellow, to dijon to hot mustard which is what I used.
They aren’t the prettiest things but they are really tasty. My hubby and I ate them for lunch the first time I made them because we couldn’t stop at just one.
Recipe Tips and Notes
- Please use a block of parmesan cheese and grate yourself. The already grated kind may have additives that will impair the melting.
- I like to use a microplane to make a fine grate. You can just use a smaller grater if you have one. Also chop the ham very finely too and mix them together well.
- When making the mayo you can use whatever flavor of mustard you like. You could even add in a little horseradish if you like that taste.
- These chips will be crispiest when just baked. As they sit for awhile they will get chewier but they still taste great.
You don’t need the dip to make this a great keto snack. These cheese chips taste delicious on their own. But I have to say the dip goes very well with them.
