As I’ve gotten older, I’ve had more and more problems with my digestion. The fact that I love to cook almost as much as I love to eat, doesn’t help. Recently I purchased two cool aromatherapy products from Plant Therapy: Anti-Aging Serum and Digest-Aid Synergy. Whenever I’m having stomach issues I just roll on the synergy blend and rub it in a clockwise fashion over my abdomen. It seems to help me, so when I ran out I decided to make my own blend.
If you don’t have a bunch of pure essential oils already and would rather just buy the roll on, I highly suggest Plant Therapy’s Digest-Aid as pictured to the right. If you click on the pic, it will take you to an Amazon affiliate link and you can buy it there or just buy it on Plant Therapy’s site. It’s pre-diluted which means it has the carrier or base oil in it along with the pure essential oils so there is no need to mix it. Also it has a very nice metal roller bottle that works well for applying on your stomach.
When I made my own blend I used the empty Digest-Aid bottle since I liked it so much. I premixed the carrier oil with the essential oils and then funneled it into the roller bottle. If you don’t have a roller bottle you can just store this in a glass jar and it will be fine.
The Recipe
Use 12 drops of pure essential oil to 1 ounce (2 Tablespoons) of carrier oil. (I used apricot kernel but you can use an extra light olive oil if you have it on hand or even coconut oil.)
- 12 drops of essential oils are: 3 Roman chamomile, 3 lemongrass, 2 basil, 2 ginger and 2 peppermint
- Mix well and store in a glass bottle.
I selected these essential oils for the follow properties:
Ginger: calms digestive system, good for diarrhea, gas indigestion, morning sickness, nausea, motion sickness, vomiting, etc.
Peppermint: good for food poisoning, vomiting, diarrhea, constipation, gas, nausea, motion sickness, infections, gastritis, heartburn, flu & cold, indigestion, etc.
Lemongrass: good for stomach aches, constipation, flatulence and more
Basil: good for gastric spasms and gastric ulcers
Chamomile: diarrhea, nausea and stomach aches
Other essential oils for digestion are:
Wild Marjoram: stomach aches and indigestion
Rosemary: constipation and indigestion
Tarragon: good for dyspepsia, gas, intestinal spasms, nervous or sluggish digestion
Fennel: antiparasitic, antiseptic, antispasmodic, commonly used for gastritis, digestive support
Caraway: anti parasitic, antispasmodic, good for indigestion and gas
Anise: can calm and strengthen the digestive system.
Disclaimer: I am not a doctor and these ideas are not to be taken as medical advice– they are simply what works for me and my family. If you are using essential oils for medicinal purposes, make sure you are using a high-quality oil.
I hope you have success with this digestive blend. Do you have a special essential oil blend that you use for digestion? Please leave me a comment as I love learning about these special oils.

Peppermint oil is one of my favorites, too! There is so much we can do with the mint oils from uplifting our mood, to cleaning the house. And Peppermint oil can even help in the grieving period for giving us a bit of a mental lift when we’re feeling down.

My sister and I used to have an herbal gift shop and we used essential oils all the time. I’m just getting back into them and sometimes look for reasons to use them!
