Our trip to Hawaii in 2012 included two islands; Hawaii and Oahu. We covered the Big Island in two other posts and it is a wonderful place. Today’s post covers the best of Oahu. Now the snobs out there will say, “Why did you go there? We had a MUCH better time locked away in our exclusive beach resort on Maui.” While this might be great, you would miss a lot of what makes Hawaii a special place. So maybe next time, we go to some of the more exclusive islands, but I think for a first trip there, you should not miss Oahu.

Hey, this is a great post. I live in Honolulu and I think you hit some great spots. There is a lot of great hiking all over the island for those willing and able (I’m not able but my husband hikes most weekends). Oahu is not just Waikiki. If you are young, want to see and be seen, and shop then Waikiki is probably the place for you but there’s a lot more here. I would mention Aloha Tower it’s a great historic landmark but it’s downtown where there is more traffic. I love my downtown area it’s not commercial like Waikiki but it can be crowded (especially Chinatown). I love Chinatown, I do all of my grocery shopping there. Downtown we also have the Iolani palace, King Kamehameha statue, Aliiolani Hale (A.K.A. Hawaii 50 headquarters) and many more touristy places.
