Day Tripping with Rick – Biking the Burgh – Pittsburgh PA

April 2, 2015 by Denise 5 Comments

Biking Pittsburgh Day Trip

Today’s trip is one of our favorites.  We live near Pittsburgh.  Our rivers define us.  The Monongahela from the south, and the Allegheny from the north meet at Point State Park to form the Ohio.  When I was a kid, steel mills lined the Mon from just south of Pittsburgh for 50 miles.  Barges loaded with coal passed each other at every bend of the river providing the carbon for carbon steel.  At night, the Mon Valley lit up like day.  It was “Hell with the lid off”.

Rick has his own blog now. Yay Rick! Please click here for the rest of the article and check out the rest of Rick’s site: Day Tripping with Rick.

What an awesome trip! When Rory was 8-years-old, we went to Pittsburgh for the Children’s Hospital. We had a fantastic trip that we still cherish 11 years later. The people of Pittsburgh were so loving and wonderful, and we got to see lots and lots of things. My mouth still waters when I think of the lobster rolls I ate at Roland’s Seafood! Oh, my! YUM! Thanks for sharing at the #HomeMattersParty – we hope to see you again next week. 🙂

I just love it when people come here for the first time. They’re never prepared for what a great place Pittsburgh is. Growing up here, I watched it change from a smoky mill town to a beautiful city of bridges and hills. Winters are rough, but spring, summer and especially fall are wonderful times to visit.
