Day Tripping with Rick – San Francisco South

December 27, 2014 by Denise 12 Comments

San Francisco Going South

Today my wonderful, travel-loving husband is guest posting with one of his favorite day trips out of San Francisco. He is my favorite person to travel with for many reasons but one is that he knows what he’s talking about and has been everywhere. Hope you enjoy it as much as I do.

Rick has his own blog now. Yay Rick! Please click here for the rest of the article and check out the rest of Rick’s site: Day Tripping with Rick.

These are some of my favorite places – been too long since I visited the Redwoods! Thank you so much for sharing! I hope you’ll come back again this week for Awesome Life Friday!

I took this similar trip in 1988 or 89 on a tour bus. We went through Gilroy and even stopped there for an hour. We did not get any garlic ice cream. I was with my sister and cousin. We enjoyed the trip tremendously. The redwoods were gorgeous. The tour was from San Fran to Monterey and back. We were in Monterey in 2012 too. We enjoyed it a lot. Thanks for the memory jogger.

Thanks. I had fun writing it. I’ve probably sent 20 people on this trip and I’ve never had any complaints. It is a bit long, tho. I’ve done it a couple times over two days and it is much less hectic.

We had the Monster of all road trips this summer, and San Francisco was on it and we fell in love so much that our oldest will be attending college there. Her and The Hubs will be traveling back there middle of February…. Thanks I will pass this along to them, to see if they want to take a day….. We live in Illinois and went from there to Missouri, Texas, Arizona, New Mexico, Palm Springs, LA, Santa Cruz, San Francisco, Napa, Nevada, Colorado and home….. Crazy!!!!

Great article! I enjoyed the pictures too (especially the one of Redwood Grove Trail).

The largest tree at the farthest point on the trail is the one you can get inside. Once inside, it is pitch dark except for the light coming in through the entrance. You can stretch your arms out and not touch the inside walls. I used to run ahead and get into the tree and have the kids try to guess where I went.

I did this day trip back in ’02 or ’03 on your advice. I had never traveled alone before then, and I spent a great deal of that day simply immersed in the crazy nature the likes of which I had never seen. Thanks, for the original advice and for triggering some fond memories!

PS if you told me 5 years ago that my uncle would be blogging I would have called you a liar! 🙂
