I’m a firm believer that you can add bacon to most things and they will taste even better. This maple almond butter with bacon is case in point. I love homemade almond butter and it’s just so easy to make that I don’t buy it anymore.
While on vacation I bought a maple almond butter and just loved it. I was inspired to add a bit of bacon and make this tasty little homemade almond butter recipe. There are only a few ingredients, it’s very easy to make and it tastes out of this world. Perfect for a Paleo or low carb diet.
How To Roast Almonds
The first thing you want to do is roast your raw almonds. You can probably use already roasted almonds but they are usually full of unhealthy oils but if that doesn’t bug you by all means use already roasted almonds.
However if you are roasting your own, just pop them in a 350 degree oven for 10 minutes and then let them cool. I buy my almonds from Costco and a 3 lb bag of raw almonds is about $16 which I think is a good price.
Maple Almond Butter Recipe
When they are cooled, add them to your food processor along with the maple syrup, avocado oil, salt and vanilla. Process for about 10-12 minutes until it forms a peanut butter consistency.
You have to stop and scrap down the sides every once in awhile but it will turn into almond butter, I promise you. I added the avocado oil to get it on it’s way but you can use a different oil if you want. You probably could leave it out altogether and it will just take a bit longer in the food processor.
Once it is done, scoop it all into your container or bowl and then add your bacon bits and mix to combine. As the butter sits, it gets a bit more liquidy (word?) and when you put it in to the refrigerator it will harden up a bit.
I’m not sure what normal people would eat this with. I eat it by the spoonful as dessert to be honest. But maybe with apple or pear slices or bread? Or you can be like me, grab a spoon and savor this salty, nutty maple almond butter! Â Enjoy!
