Every year about this time, I see recipes for dying Easter eggs with natural ingredients. I’ve always been intrigued but never got around to it… until today. Â I have to say that it was quite fun!
Trying to figure out what would make a pretty dye was challenging and some came out differently than I thought (spinach and green tea). I only used things I had on hand (spinach, tea, onion peels and turmeric).
The basic recipe is:
- 2 Tablespoons tumeric to 1 cup water
- 1 cup onion peels (red and yellow) Â to 1 cup water
- 1 cup spinach + 1 green tea bag to 1 cup water
- 1 Tablespoon of Steeped Berry Mania tea to 1 cup water
You measure the above ingredients in separate pans. Boil for 20 minutes covered and then cooled. Add to individual cups or glasses with 1 Tablespoon of vinegar. Add eggs and put in the refrigerator until you reach your desired color.
Here are my results. I would like to try this again tomorrow with my son, now that I know what I’m doing. I am going to try purple cabbage which should turn blue and beets for a pink hue. Hope you have as much fun as I did!

I like your idea for the natural dyed eggs. I tried them last year and failed miserably. Yours turned out pretty well and colorful. BTW: I had no idea that purple cabbage turns eggs blue! Thanks for sharing with us at Home Matters Linky party!!
